Money management lessons to be part of summer program
The BBC have visited Ashleigh Primary School in Darwen as it films a new money management series, due to be aired in the summer.
The lesson recorded was on budgeting and is one of the modules taught in our free money management course for pupils in years’ five and six, with the aim of teaching children how to avoid unmanageable debt and establish money skills for life, before bad financial habits are formed.
The BBC program will discuss children and money, exploring the ways children can be prepared for handling money, using credit and sticking to a budget when they grow up.
Producers filmed the full lesson as it was delivered by DebtAware and pupils who were chosen to help, called Money Mentors. They also interviewed a number of teachers and pupils at the school, as well as the charity’s Education Manager, Brian Souter.
Brian said of the experience;
“The pupils involved today have had a really useful experience during filming and an awful lot of fun.
“I’m glad we got to showcase the vital life-long money skills which are learned when we partner with primary schools and hope that it will encourage others to get involved.
“We are all very much looking forward to watching the programme later in the year.”
Ashleigh Primary School Year 6 class teacher Matt Harty said;
“It’s been a pleasure having DebtAware part of our class for the last two days. The children have had an amazing day filming.
“Thank you for giving the school the opportunity to take part in such a fantastic programme.”
