BBC program focuses on money management lessons
The BBC program Right on the Money starring Denise Lewis and Dominic Littlewood recently featured the DebtAware programme in one of its episodes.
Firstly looking at helping a young couple struggling with household bills with the added pressure of a wedding, the program then moves into the classroom to prove you are never too young to learn how to manage money.
Producers visited Ashleigh Primary School in Darwen back in February to film the new series which is on television now, and is also available on BBC IPlayer.
The lesson recorded was on budgeting and wants versus needs, and is one of the modules taught in our free money management course for pupils in years’ five and six. There was even a Money Challenge where the children who had had our money management lessons went up against those who hadn’t, with the expected results!
Producers filmed the full lesson as it was delivered by DebtAware and pupils who were chosen to help, called Money Mentors. They also interviewed a number of teachers and pupils at the school, as well as the charity’s Education Manager, Brian Souter.
Ashleigh Primary School Year 6 class teacher Matt Harty said;
“The children have had an amazing day filming. Thank you for giving the school the opportunity to take part in such a fantastic program.”
