The Primary School has become a member of our accreditation scheme after embedding the ethos of the programme within their curriculum.
The school has been involved in DebtAware programme for several years, and is so sure that the programme will reduce the negative effects of debt that it is sending four of its own Money Mentors over 100 miles away to deliver the lessons to children at St Joseph’s primary school in Derby.
DebtAware education manager Brian Souter said:
“We are so pleased that the lessons have been so successful and the school certainly values the importance of equipping its students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to develop a sensible and sound attitude towards money management.
“Avondale’s Money Mentors will be teaching a new group of Money Mentors at St Josephs, so these money management skills will pass to children across Derby. Money management is such a fundamental requirement and we believe that teaching children this at a young age will help them to form good financial habits for life. Avondale’s commitment to the programme is very worthy of this accreditation.”
The programme now has 8,000 children enrolled from 120 schools across England and Scotland.
Headteacher Stuart Plowes added;
“The DebtAware programme has worked really well for us. The passion for the programme has transferred from all the deliverers to our children, and they have relished the activities and the subject matter. In our socio-economic setting these messages are really important.”
