As part of this year’s Talk Money Week, DebtAware delivered money management lessons to more than 450 children from 13 primary schools across the North West of England as well as well as organising a Talk Money Week competition, which attracted entries from over 500 pupils.
Talk Money Week, which took place between 12-18 November 2018, is an annual event that aims to get more people talking about money by showcasing the fantastic work of thousands of organisations across the UK. More than 400 events took place up and down the country during the week, reaching in excess of 16m people.
As part of the DebtAware Talk Money Week competition, children had the chance to take part in three different creative money management activities. We’re delighted to announce the following category winners:
Top Tips for Christmas Spending for parents who are planning their Christmas budget

A poem about being careful with spending at Christmas
- Jacob Joyce, aged 10 from St Mary’s, Ince
Writing a short story about a family that spent too much at Christmas
- Olivia Worthington, aged 10 from St James CE Primary in Chorley
- Ruby Taylor, aged 10 and Anna Pell, aged 10 from Farington Primary in Leyland
- Megan Bunn, aged 9 from Clayton Brook Primary School in Bamber Bridge
Speaking about the competition entries, DebtAware’s Education Manager Brian Souter said ‘Congratulations to all the winners. We’ve had a wonderful week and the children have been fantastic. It’s truly remarkable how good the standard of these entries were. It really reinforces just how much of our lessons these children absorb and how vital the work the charity does is’.
